Joining Novelists, Inc.

Membership Requirements

You must have published at least two novels with a qualifying market, and at least one of your novels must have been published within the last five years prior to your application for membership.

The membership committee may request proof of eligibility in some circumstances. You must also agree to have your name and a mailing address published in our membership roster (telephone number is optional). And you must agree to keep our membership roster confidential. This ensures our members' privacy and security.

Application Timeline

Please be aware that our application process is thorough, but slow. We apologize for any impatience or inconvenience you may experience. Here's a guideline for the process:

Application filed.
On the 10th day of the following month, your name is submitted for membership in Nink (the monthly newsletter of Novelists, Inc.).
On the 15th day of the month after that, the application is approved or denied.

Membership Fees

Payment in full by credit card or PayPal must accompany all online applications. Our payment site is secure, but if you do not wish to pay online, please e-mail ninc@varney.com for an application form.
If complete application is received by Novelists, Inc. between Nov. 16th and July 15th: $80.00 ($15 nonrefundable application fee and $65 one-year membership dues).
If complete application is received by Novelists, Inc. between July 16th and Nov. 15th: $105.00 ($15 nonrefundable application fee and $90 for membership through Dec.31 of next year)
There is a $20 surcharge, to cover postal fees, for members outside the U.S. who subscribe to the monthly newsletter in hardcopy format. There is no surcharge for non-U.S. members who choose electronic delivery of the newsletter, which version also offers extra content not available in the printed format.
For renewing members, fees for the coming year will be due in January.

In the event your application is not accepted, your $65 dues payment will be refunded.

Refunds, if called for by Ninc policies and procedures, will be processed to the same credit card on which the charge was made, or by check. Allow 60 days for the refund to show on your credit card statement, or if by check, for the check to reach you.
