Manuscript Critique: Best for new authors looking for a general editorial assessment of their work, the manuscript critique is a high-level overview of the strengths and weaknesses of major story elements like character development, motivation, goals, stakes, conflict, plot structure, tension, pace, and tone as well as genre expectations, if applicable. Recommended for early drafts or those interested in an experienced beta read but aren’t ready for an in-depth developmental edit. Rate: $11 per 1,000 words
Developmental Edit: This level of edits dives deeper into your book and includes an editorial letter discussing the same story elements as a manuscript critique along with suggestions for improvement and chapter- or scene-specific notes. Margin comments will address specific areas where these revisions can be made and flag word choice, sentence clarity, consistency, and story logic. Includes follow-ups to form a revision plan and brainstorm solutions. Recommended for writers who have reached their self-editing limit and who want professional guidance before getting into prose-level technicalities. Rate: $16-$22 per 1,000 words based on an assessment of the project
Line Editing: If you’re ready for that final polish, line edits can be added or booked separately to strengthen and clean up the prose. Using track changes, I’ll correct grammar, awkward or weak wording, repetition, typos, formatting errors, etc. while retaining your voice and style. Note that this is not a copyedit. Rate: $6-$10 per 1,000 words based on an assessment of the project
Proofreading: The final step before publication, proofreads will catch any pesky typos or formatting errors that have made it through and ensure a flawless read. Rate: $5-$8 per 1000 words based on a sample.
