Frequently Asked Questions
What are the requirements to join Novelists, Inc.?
Applicants must have published two novels to be considered eligible for membership. Learn more about our membership requirements here.
Do you have different membership tiers? A newly-published author versus an established author?
There are no tiers within NINC. This organization exists for the multi-published, career novelist. Whether you’ve written two novels or 200, we invite you to plug into the vast network that is NINC.
What is the application fee? Is it refunded if my application is rejected?
The application fee, which is non-refundable, is $15.
How long does the application process take?
NINC’s application process is thorough and typically takes 6–8 weeks, from making sure your application is complete, to verifying your qualifications, to final approval.
How much are dues?
Annual dues for NINC are $95 USD. The fee schedule:
For approved applicants joining NINC:
- January 1 – June 30: $95 (full year)
- July 1 – December 31: $45 (half year)
For renewing members:
- January 1 – January 31: $95
- February 1 – June 30: $95 + $10 (late fee)
- July 1 – December 31: $45 + $10 (late fee)
I used to be a member, but I dropped out years ago. Do I need to go through the whole application process again?
Because our application process is so thorough, NINC does not require former members to reapply. If you are still in the NINC database as a lapsed member, you can log in to your old member account and pay your dues ($95 or $45; see above) plus the $10 late fee applied to lapsed members. If you aren’t able to log in to your old account, contact NINC for assistance. However, please note, if there is no record of you in the database, you will need to reapply.
Will joining this organization help me sell more books?
There is no crystal ball within NINC, but there is a vast network of knowledge, energy, and professional savvy that you can access to help you create a strong writing career. As a member, you will be in contact with hundreds of other career novelists who have made a commitment to create, publish, market, and sell their work — in today’s marketplace and beyond. Our best advice? Join NINC. Get involved. Make connections. Build your career.
Will my membership in NINC help me market my work?
NINC members exchange information, advice, and ideas with each other about book marketing, whether traditionally published or indie-published. Nink, our monthly publication for members, includes marketing information, and there are workshops on marketing at our annual conference. But please be aware that NINC, which consists entirely of professional peers, is not a venue for self-promotion.
Can I attend the NINC conference if I’m not a member?
No. NINC’s annual conference is only for our members and our industry guests, speakers, and sponsors. Attending our conference is one of the benefits of membership. Attending members can purchase “companion meals” for partners, family members, or friends who may want to join them for a few days at the beach; companions can only attend the specific social events for which they have a ticket.
